Diplomatic support for ISSU’s mission in Ukraine
This September, ISSU concluded an important visit to Ukraine, with a focus on both humanitarian support and building strong partnership for the future.
In Kyiv, the delegation met with Elsa Håstad, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden. The discussions were described as open and constructive, with a strong emphasis on ISSU’s broad portfolio: from emergency medical support and regional hospital cooperation to mental health initiatives and knowledge exchange programs.
Interest was shown in ongoing projects and in partnering for future initiatives. We also reflected on our cooperation with regional hospitals in Ternopil and Zaporizhzhia regions, where ISSU is strengthening healthcare capacity through medical aid deliveries, professional exchange conferences, and long-term collaboration. In addition, we presented the current SAY IT! mental health campaign, which we are carrying out together with the National Psychological Association of Ukraine (NPA). The Embassy recognized the value of these initiatives in strengthening Ukrainian healthcare and psychological resilience, and suggested partnerships contacts with relevant organizations in Sweden and Ukraine.
As part of the Ukrainian visit, we also delivered 4 tons of medical supplies and equipment to Ternopil’s Regional Clinical Hospital and surrounding cluster hospitals. The shipment, valued at over SEK 1.2 million, included specialized mattresses, sterilization units, and surgical instruments, all aimed at strengthening healthcare capacity for both civilians and veterans. This was another step in our partnership with the regional health authorities, ensuring that support is not only immediate but also contributes to long-term resilience in the local healthcare system.
